Updates and Musings

This truck belongs to a friend of mine.  Hasn’t he done a wonderful job restoring it?   It’s a beauty, but what I am really envious of is the fuel pump.  That’s the one accessory lacking on my truck, and since the last two weeks, Michigan had led the nation with gas pushing $4.30 a gallon, that pump looks mighty nice.

I am constantly amazed at nature this spring.  Things have been absolutely beautiful, to the eyes and the nose.  This morning I walked downtown to the local greasy spoon for breakfast and caught a whiff of something fragrant and noticed another tree in bloom.  The maples are loaded with their helicopter-equipped seeds.  We’ve had lots of rain and so far no hot weather and it seems that Mother Nature is just continually teasing our senses.  I know some fear a heavy harvest of seeds, thinking it is a predictor of a bad winter, but I’m tired of such pessimistic thoughts.   Instead, I’ll enjoy the beauty and if winter turns out to be tough, I’ll have more opportunities to use my skis.  It was only a couple weeks ago that I finally got around to cleaning all the old wax off and putting them up for the season.

Of course, there has been some bad weather all around and the other night we had incredible thunderstorms.  I sat out on the back porch watching the lightning approach until the town’s tornado siren blew and we all went down into the basement.  Luckily, there was no damage around here.

Went to my first baseball game of the season last night.  It's a little late, but things have been busy.  West Michigan Whitecaps beat Fort Wayne Tin Caps 2-1.  A well played defensive game for single A minor league teams.  Defensive games may not be the most exciting, but to a true, they allow you to relax and enjoy.  In a couple of weeks, I'll get down to Detroit and hopefully see the Tigers walk away with the Angel's halos.  .

Hopefully, this week I’ll find the time to get my sailboat back in the water.  I’ve been longing for the feel of wind tightening the canvas as it propels the boat across the water, or just sitting in the boat as it gentle rocks, listening to the chiming sounds of shrouds clanging against the mast and spreaders.

  1. We are paying €7.50 or $10.01 a gallon. You needed to be reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-eeeeeeeeeeely rich to run a motor delivering anything less than 40 miles to the gallon.
    She looks lovely though.

  4. Spent a beautiful day out on Rock Creek today. There were some mishaps too, but they haven't overpowered the overall good feeling I have this evening. At least not yet. I'm enjoying this part of the year before it starts getting too hot and dry and all wilderness access is closed down for fire danger. Ugh.

  6. I love old restored automobiles. I wish I had the talent and patience to do such a thing. I fear I'm not very mechanically inclined, but I'd love to restore and old GTO

  7. Spring is finally in its glory here in MInnesota, too. Not that I expect summer anytime soon....We had a brief stint of that $4.39 gas, too, but thankfully it's back at $3.50 or so now....Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Sage.

  8. Man I love that truck. A work of love. I enjoy your optimism: "if winter turns out to be tough, I’ll have more opportunities to use my skis"! I like baseball and we will go see a few Acer games BUT to be honest I have kinda come to see baseball as the speed-bump on the journey to the football season ( a die hard Pats fan here and yes I cheer for the Red Sox too). :) Enjoy that sail boat. I'll be cleaning up the kayak and fishing gear this week too. A belated happy Father's day to you.

  11. Nice post, Sage. Love the truck! Reminds me of a similar model Chevy my dad used to have, sans the gas pump of course. His had to be right around a '63 to '65, somewhere in there.

I've been enjoying the first few weeks of summer-like weather here. Haven't tired of it, yet.

  12. Love the gas pump. Hope you put in a picture of the boat

Spring and summer were late here. All the crops are a couple of weeks behind

It's been yicky cloudy, cool but very humid this week but no big TStorms to do something to the weather. Feel bad for all the people who came to go to the beach

  13. Baseball has always been a major part of my life. Minors or Majors, it's all good. I love old trucks and have a 53 Ford F-100. There is no danger of any snow ever falling where I live, but it is less than a two hour drive to get to the slopes.

  14. Nice truck and I do hope you get your boat back in the water soon. You take the best water photos. Sounds like your summer is off to a great start. Enjoy everything it brings!

  15. Gee whiz that is a stunning reconditioned truck, and that gas pump is very awesome. I am amazed every time I see one refinished. I'd love to see a gas station redone in such fine beauty! It's sure odd but I guess it's because winter held on for so long, but even here it's like things are so fresh and new to us. Maybe since we still had snow in May! Enjoy that sailboat and Michigan, where I was born!! I just know we're going to all have a really wonderful summer too!
