3 Word Wednesday: A Nevada Jack Rant

Bone’s Three-word Wednesday writing assignment this week is to come up with something using the following three words. I assigned the task to Nevada Jack. Sorry that he’s a few days past deadline, you just can’t find good help these days. This week’s words are: absent, notebook and persuade.

The primary season is coming soon, yet for the most part, the candidates have been absent from Michigan. We’re not overloaded with TV ads trying to persuade us to vote for this or that candidate. There are no reporters running around with notebooks, asking folks on the street questions of national importance such as what we think about Edwards’ hair cut or Mitch’s underwear. There are no candidates dropping dollars into our struggling state economy, tipping the waitresses and kissing the babies. All this is happening because the bright minds in our state legislature decided to usurp the political process and schedule an early primary on January 15. This is before the “legal” date for primaries and caucuses, as set by the two major political parties. The parties want to protect the two states known for their corn or granite to get first dibs on selecting the next President. In a state where there is absolutely no bi-partisan effort to balance the budget, we’re hearing lots of bi-partisan rhetoric citing reasons why Iowa and New Hampshire shouldn’t have a lock on being first. It's being fought out in the courts right now and it seems as if it's on again/off again, I can't keep it straight. But if the courts allow the primary go forth, we’ll have a primary election with little campaigning and the possibility that our delegates to the national political parties won’t be certified!

Enough ranting—it’s snowing and time for a long winter nap…

  1. Consider yourself lucky to not have to put up with endless TV and radio commercials for every candidate . . .

  2. We just had our Federal Elections here. We only watch the ABC (Public Broadcaster) thus missed all the terrible political adds that were bombarded on the commercial networks.

American politics always looks on the surface terribly complicated. Perhaps this time around I will pay a little more notice and see if I can understand the intricacies of it all.

Here in Australia its compulsary voting and we all vote on the one day, which is always a Saturday.

  5. Mitt's underwear? I'm suddenly thankful I don't watch much news.

  6. It's snowing and you want to take a nap?? Oh, if only it would snow in Miami...napping would be the last thing on my mind. I didn't realize how much I missed the northeast this time of year.

  7. Diane--Sage considers himself lucky, I just want to go into hiberation!

Jodi, thanks for stopping by--I wonder what our elections would be like if we required folks to vote?

Kenju--I had a good visit to NC last month, but at this point in time, there is only so much of heaven I can take!

Bone, it was a cheap shot at Mitt's religion--Mormon faithful wear AT ALL TIMES what is called temple garmets-think of a "union suit" that goes to just above the knees and covers the chest

Scarlet, if it starts snowing hard in Miami, you better start confessing and making peace with your Creator!

  10. I follow politics the way some people follow football or baseball. I love it. And by the way, the Rasmussen poll of your home state, Michigan, shows Huckabee ahead in the GOP.

Snowing? And here I am kicking myself for not mowing my lawn this afternoon. Last year I did my Christmas mowing on December 12, but like Michigan I thought I would try to move it forward this year.

  11. Mike--I hear you!

    Kenju--I love the snow!

Kevin--I haven't heard who's ahead here, but interestingly the only signs I've seen have been for Ron Paul--some of which are "homemade" signs. Enjoy your lawnmowing!

ROFL Sorry, I know it's a serious topic, politics, but I got stuck on this part and couldn't stop laughing. I personally try and tune it out. And when you watch as little television as I do, that's not all that hard :)

  14. I'm enjoying the debate this past week about Oprah finally endorsing a candidate and what effect it will have, if any. If the popularity of the Oprah recommended bras is any measurement, Obama's going to become president.
