Another washout

I like the way the moon looks like a cat!
I had hoped to go out into the marsh in my kayak on his super high tide night and watch the harvest moon rise and then duck behind the earth’s shadow, but we’re under cloud covers and you can’t see the moon at all (that seems to always happen around here on full moons, or at least those I plan to be out on the water for).  But last night I did get out for a walk and the high water nearly cover the spartina (the marsh grass).  The wind was up and clouds were blowing by so fast that at times it was hidden and other times it was bright despite wisp of clouds.  The Spanish moss was blowing and in all it seemed to be a Halloween-like night.  I took a few photos with my iphone (without a tripod) and they seemed to come out okay.

The sailing yesterday was great (and our boat took first place!).

  2. Once again I was forced to reschedule my own trip to the coast. Will probably have to wait until the middle of October before I can go. Last year I hit the perfect wet and cold Saturday and had the south end of Pawleys Island all to myself.

  3. I add my congratulations on your 1st place triumph. Sky was clear here but Norma's lunar eclipse photo was spectacularly out of focus. As an admirer of impressionism, I liked it anyway.

  4. It was overcast here as well. Of course, California seemed to get the best show last night. Congrats on first place!

  5. Thanks for taking the hit with the cloud cover. Although we had clouds all day, we had a perfectly clear night for viewing the Super Blood Moon.

  6. That would've been a lovely night on the water for moon gazing if it had been clear. I love the pictures though. I'm a sucker for Halloween effects.

    Congrats on taking first place!!!

  7. I was hoping to see the moon, too. Unfortunately, Mother Nature didn't cooperate.

  10. Fabulous that your boat won! We were lucky to see a full and clear shot of it all last evening here in Minnesota. My daughter not so lucky since they've moved to Huntsville, AL they too were under a cloud cover. She was so sad about that, because she's always been fascinated with this sort of thing. Thank goodness for now we're even holding on to a late summer, and my tomatoes are still producing like summer time, which means our grass is too! Enjoy your week and more sailing!

  11. Those phones are getting better photos than the high end cameras of '08. No wonder Canon and Nikon are running scared.
    Lovely shots, great atmosphere.

  12. We had a perfect view from front to finish Jeff--but then we didn't sail to first place so i guess in a twisted sort of logic we're even on this one.

  13. That shot is so beautiful and eerie. I'm glad to know what spartina means - it's the brand name of my wallet - made on Daufuskie Island.

  14. Wow, just wow. Those shots are great. They could be on the over of greeting cards. Seriously, I love them.

  17. Moon or no moon, I love the sound of being on a kayak in the marsh... We had cloud cover too, which is good because I didn't feel guilty for getting some sleep instead!

  18. Your photos are fantastic. They look like paintings, that's how good they are.

    Greetings from London.
