An Afternoon on the River

The colors are just beginning to glow brilliantly as in the reflection I caught in the water yesterday during an afternoon trip down a local river.
As you can see with the photo of my dog (who hates cameras), not all the trees have given up on summer. But some have and they are beautiful. The river was beautiful, the weather warm, the mosquitoes at take out were terrible and the fishing wasn't much (I caught only one fish, but I didn't spend a lot of time fishing).

I had to get gas today and it was $2.95 a gallon, a good 60 or 70 cents cheaper than my last fill-up. Of course, I have a large tank and when I'm not driving out of town, I can go several weeks between fill-ups! As good as it was to see gas back below 3 bucks, it doesn't make up for the hit my retirement accounts have taken.

Life here continues to be busy... Hopefully, someday soon, I'll have the time and motivation to write more stories. Until then, or at least over the next few weeks, I'll post photos of the fall colors.

I've done this post many times including this trip last spring, when the redbuds were in bloom.

  1. When the brilliant color of red is reflected on the river, it's the time I've to look inside and reflect upon life itself. Re your previous post, I understand. Anyway, I'll continue to read, but may not comment. Have fun exploring Fall and whatever it brings.

  2. What breathtaking pictures. Your dog is adorable.
The 401K situation is definitely scary - and frustrating.

  3. The autumn water reflections looks wonderful. We are still blessed!

  4. You know what's better than colorful leaves in the fall? The reflection of them in the water.

Thanks for sharing your autumn with us.

PS - Let me know if you want to see some lime green palm trees. That's all I have to offer. ;)

  5. I love the red reflections in the water. Our gas is hovering at $3.69, but we have high gas taxes in NC.

  6. Mother Hen, I'm not sure what you're saying here

Epiphany, Thanks, I'm really proud of that photo... As for the dog, he's great, i just wish he didn't get so nervous around cameras (I keep my camera insured in case it goes into the drink--otherwise I'd leave either the camera of the dog at home).

Tim, you are right, we are still blessed!

Life, I enjoy being in nature.

Scarlet, why don't you send me those photos about the third week of February! Thanks.

Kenju, we're normally higher than NC, and also the nation, but for some reason we've had a shift the past month and our prices have been lower.

  7. Leaves are mostly just falling here without turning colors. I suspect due to the wet fall we had up until a couple weeks ago, we aren't going to have much of a fall colors season. More rain sceduled for later today.

  8. Oh that first photo is magnificant! Wow!

Congrats on making it under $3. About 40 miles east of Madison it's $2.99, but here in town it's still holding on to the $3.25 range. I'm hopeful though. And I refuse to look at my retirement statements for a little while. I'm burrying my head in the sand, telling myself that I'm young, it'll turn around. But I still get sick to my stomach thinking about it... so I don't. I can't do much to change it, so I try not to worry. And, to not worry, means to not think about it. Which is why I'm going to stop writing now :)

  9. Sage, it wasn't long ago that people were saying oil would never be below $100 a barrel again. That has really changed. It's something to keep in perspective through this.

  10. Woo, those leaves are so beautiful! We don't get that kind of thing here in San Francisco. Just lots of overgrown plants, blossoming for the second time.

    Your dog is so handsome!

  11. Wow! Beautiful colours in all their splendour. One can't even begin to see anything like this in Delhi.

Hopefully one day you write a book such beautiul photographs and great stories.

  13. and isn't OPEC expected to cut off to make the prices go back up to make up for any slight profit they might've missed out on when our country cut back? Evil, greedy...ah, but on to nicer things...your colors are wonderful. I love seeing the trees over the water. And it is a shame your puppy doesn't like her picture made cause she sure is cute.

  14. The top pic is awesome. Love the bottom too, but the top really is beautiful.

$2.95/gal is sounding good! We're way down at $3.39-$3.59, and most places have gas daily. Progress! Hopefully the market will rebound too.

  15. Those photographs are absolutely breathtaking. My retirement accounts are down 20 percent; fortunately, I guess, retirement is way off in the future.

    Love to see Trisket!

  16. Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures. I don't get to see such scenery here in the Los Angeles area. Gas continues to drop here too, which is a blessing. I'm scared to look at my retirement account statement.

  17. How beautiful. Went up to Carson City today on 395 through the Sierras. Was hoping to see all the lovely colors, but the trees are just beginning to turn. Nothing like your river. Hopefully on the way back, I can get some better pictures. I can't imagine gas under $3. Wow!

  20. Thanks for all your comments on the pictures and on my dog (who's vain enough already). Cyclopseven, feel free to put the photo to words, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
