Blogging Blues

Tonight I was ready to throw in the towel and go join the dark side and convert to beta-blogging. I decided to do this only because I was once again not being able to post on beta-blogs except via anonymous posts. This is a hassle, but can be done except for on the blogs where anonymous posts are not allowed. One blogger even asked my opinion about her interpretation on a movie review she wrote and I couldn’t respond because she doesn’t allow anonymous posts. (I like your interpretation, by the way) So I decided I’d sell my soul and become a beta. But then blogger wouldn’t allow it. It was as if I was trying to sell my soul to the Devil and he had second thoughts.

  1. This beta blogger situation is a frustrating thing some times when one wants to leave comments. I like some of the features of beta blogger and think it may be a good thing in the long run. But until we all can get there, evidently there will be some inconveniences at times. I don't have the option yet to change to beta blogger.

  2. Michele sent me over, Sage.

That Beta Blogger thing is a hot topic for me. I switched over as soon as it was released and they fucked my blog up bad. And wouldn't help solve the problem. I finally started publishing to a new address. That's why my blog is at Utenzi2 not Utenzi. The old blog is still there but 70% of the posts were lost and it won't allow new updates or even comments to be posted.

I know a lot of people who've made the switch with no problems--but I'm not one of them and I'm more likely to go over to Wordpress or something like that than Blogger Beta.

It's very annoying that they're putting a lot of pressure on bloggers to switch to the new platform but are giving minimal help to the blogs that they screw up. I hope that your blog wasn't harmed in the process, Sage.

  3. they did the same thing to me!!

i finally switched a couple of days ago.. and believe me, it really is selling your soul to the devil.

it hasn't actuall damaged anything, and i do like some of the new features, but they don't all work as they should. and they push you to get a different 'layout' template too to actually access those features. but as i like my template and i've spent ages tweaking it, i can't face changing again and loosing it all. so i don't really gain anything.

all this is pretty irrelevant though as very soon they will force us all to change anyway.

so we either accept or migrate to another. which as it would involve the same template issues i'm unlikely to do.

    anyway good luck sweety.

ooh and now i think about it, i've included my site on the guardians expat site. there's a banner on my sidebar. if you get a minute do you fancy reviewing my blog for them? i can imagine you'd be good at that :)
no pressure though babe. only if you fancy it or get a minute!

  4. Sage you're not alone. Same thing here. I have signed up with a google account and it lets me post, but it doesn't send anyone that clicks on my name back to my blog. I have also had to redo the google account several times too. I guess one day they'll let all us hold outs in. For now we wait and wander...

  5. Ah. This is familiar territory. I thought I was the only one having such troubles. Now I am a beta blogger too.

  6. Glad to hear feedback from everyone on this. It keeps pushing me to go to the new platform, but I'm too wary of upgrades until other people have done them AND they've worked for them.

  8. HA! It makes me wonder what the devil would do if I went beta. I have been considering it, since I see the handwriting on the wall, but I really hate to do it, don't you?

    Michele did it this time!

  9. Weird. I figured eventually the regular blogger passwords would be phased out, so I switched over a couple days ago.

I hope you figure it out. I appreciate your visits.

  12. I'm a bit suss about switching to beta... i'm scared that it's gonna stuff up my blog so for now I will not bow to Blogger's demands and will continue to avoid Blogger beta like the plague.

    Michele sent me.

  13. I should note that blogger seemed to be working better yesterday evening. Why will they not let me covert when they've put so much press on me converting? Kontan, wordpress sounds good but I remember the struggles you had with the changeover!

  14. Sage - They know that they shouldn't have you switch over because then the Murf that you know and love would disappear forever only to be replaced by a strange, blogless, James Bond-type character who goes by the name of 'm'.

  15. I'm not blogger so I don't have to worry about that one. I had enough trouble trying to figure out my IE update to 7! I am still getting lost on my toolbar!

  16. I was going to express the same sentiments but seems like I've been beat to that, about 17 times over. I guess you and I are considered prolific bloggers and aren't eligible. I feel like a sneech without a star on my belly right now.

  17. I think it all has something to do with natural selection, but I'm not sure.

Sorry about that soul-selling misadventure, Sage. I'm sure things will start looking up soon.

I'm still clinging to the old Blogger. My goal is to be the last active blogger to convert to the Beta. So far, so good.
