Weird things are happening

I'm working with an Indian guy at work for the next six weeks. When he arrived last week, he asked about snow (he has never seen snow and it never even gets to freezing in his part of India). I told him he may see a flurry before he leaves... I would love to see his face when he looks out this morning! The ground is covered with white stuff, but it won't last long as its only 32 degrees.

And what about the Tigers! Wow! They are up two games against Oakland for the National League Championship. Snowing this early, the Tigers winning, is hell freezing over?

Of course, the snow isn't going to help out with the fall colors. The leaves were not quite at their peak and I'm sure there color will now quickly fade away.

  1. We only got a few large, wet fat flakes this morning but it was still enough to get me excited for shoveling.

If I didn't know better, I'd think you were jumping on the Tigers bandwagon. In between books, are we? ;-)

  3. Fortunately it all stalled out to the north of us. I'm not quite ready for snow, at least until the crops are safely in bins.

  4. This is one of the things that I DON'T miss about Michigan. However, I have been thinking alot lately about the "world famous" Chicken Broil in Manchester.

  5. Sheesh, Kevin, what could possibly have you thinking about eating broiled chicken, a secret recipe cole slaw and a biscuit with a million other people on picnic tables? :-) Did you know on their 'Welcome to the village' sign, they actually promote that? I wonder what I am missing out by never attending despite being 45 minutes away.

  6. When I moved to Manchester I was envited to be on the "cole slaw committee." I humbly declined. I became a social outcast. I had no idea that being offered a role on the cole slaw committee was a highly coveted position and and that I had done the unthinkable.

  7. Murf, I declared early on that I was hoping the best for the Tigers since Jim Leyland is a former skipper of the Pirates.

Keda, it's cold for this time of the year, but I like it!

Ed, i was on the road today and a lot of corn and beans here are still in the fields.

Kevin, I'm going to have to look up this Chicken Broil thing. What is it about that part of the state and the consumption of chickens? And cole slaw--they wouldn't want me on that committee as I'd bring my own way of doing things.

  8. Snow, already. That's way too soon! Let the snow wait till December. However, for your friend from India, this should be a neat experience.

  9. I'm curled up by the fireplace with a few books and a laptop!

Tim, I bet we got a total of 4 inches of snow today (and it's snowing again), enough to really make the tree branches (with leaves yet to fall) really hang low and to cover the ground (but none on the road)!

  10. You must be ecstatic at the death of the goldenrod.

  11. By the way, I don't think Frankenmuth is considered the same part of the state as Manchester if your chicken consumption comment was about that. I hope one of your books is a road atlas. ;-)

  12. hey, this is the first year in many a moon, the Yankees didn't make it, and I'm very sad. Don't even like baseball, but...

I would happilly review any book you wrote :-)

Blogging's not about pushing non-bloggers to me--sorry for being so off topic

I was engaged to an Indian once. First time a mother didn't approve of me as I only had a Bachelors then

  13. How 'bout some snow pictures for your disadvantaged Southern friends?

I'm pulling for the Tigers now. Out of the four teams left. Definitely.

  14. yeah, what about those Tigers? They seemed to be rebounding nicely from a flat season ender in KC

  15. Murf, I got out a map and looked up Manchester. I thought it was north of you, which would put it toward Ann Arbor. I was wrong. However, it doesn't look like it's 45 minutes away from you.

Pia, I'll let you know when I get around to finishing a book! I have a dissertation that really should be published, but I just can bring myself to get back to working on it.

bone, I don't have a digital camera! But if I can get some images I'll put them up. I'll have to put a snow update now.

  16. Mal, yeah, what about those Tigers! If it's snowing as much on the other end of the state as it has here, they'll play tonight on snowshoes.

  17. Sage - It's 45 minutes. Moreso if you get behind a tractor. Taking the expressway isn't saving you any time either. It's like going to Shipshewana, Indiana (and I need to since I haven't had my Amish fix for 2006). You could take the expressway but it's still the same 3 hours as it is going down US-12 which angles down closer to the Indiana border but only has a 55 mph speed limit.

If you still have doubts, come visit and I'll show you although I'm liable to kidnap you and go to Fairfield, Iowa instead.

  18. I heard that they moved up the Tiger game from 7:30 to 4:30 because of the weather. There's no snow. It's just cold and windy.

  19. Just trying to give destiny a hand. :-)

  20. Yeap. The Tigers look very, very strong. I say a Tigers vs Mets World Series with the Tigers winning in 5 or 6. Congrats again on the Tigers!
