Breaking News by Nevada Jack

Yesterday evening, Sage and I watched the news reports of Iranian President Ahmadinejad speech at the UN. We saw him wave a Quran and a Bible and talk about how he drew inspiration from both. He also went on to spout much nonsense, such as 911 being a ploy by the American government to help business and Israel. I’m glad our delegates and the delegates of a number of other nations walked out at that point in his speech. BUT, something drew my eye to the Bible the Iranian President was waving. It sure looks like he was holding a Gideon Bible, the type which is found in hotel rooms around the world. I immediately assumed he must have lifted his Bible from the nightstand by his bed. We can only pray that like Rocky Raccoon, Gideon’s Bible will lead Ahmadinejad to a revival. Just don’t hold your breath.
I normally don't do two posts in a day, so I'll leave this one on top for a day, then move the post about completing the AT back to the top.

  2. There is hardly a sane person in the west that believes that theory, and he knows this. That speech from Ahmadinejad was exclusively directed home to Persia. However, and like with Iraq, there are no people on the ground in Iran that can fully interpret his reasons. And remember the average Iranian is very well educated, with access to one hell of a lot more diverse forms of information than the average in the West. But if this speech was delivered last year during the election I could understand better the reasoning. This year less so, but there is one internal to Iran.

  3. Yep and I get the same inspiration from reading the newspapers as he does from reading the Quran and Gideon Bible.

  4. Sounds like he told someone to run out and grab the first bible they could find. I like that he said he drew inspiration from both books. Maybe he should have just stopped talkign there.

  5. Brian, yep! When you are so full of yourself, its hard to let anything else in.

Vince, I find the Iranian situation interesting BECAUSE of their education... or, I wonder, if they have had such a talent drain that little is left there. I know a number of incredibly talented Iranians who've lived here since the 70s

Walking Guy, but you read, does he?

Charles, I think you got it right!

  6. Sage, please excuse my ignorance: I must confess that I didn't know what a Gideon Bible is! I had to Google it!
There are no Bibles in the European hotels nowadays -I think there were, long ago, but not now-.

On another note, it's wiser not to mix politics with religion...

  7. Leni, the Gideons place Bibles in hotels, hospitals, prisons, etc, here in the US and in some foreign countries... Certainly, you've heard the Beatles song, "Rocky Raccoon"? He's set out to kill a man and discovers that Gideon left his bible... which was the beginning of Rocky's revival?

  8. Hi there Sage! Hope u had a fun summer and got in some peace & quiet in the wilderness. My son 14 has just left on an army cadet camp, and the other son 12 went to a Christian Camp. About once a year my hubby and I get a rare chance to vacation WITHOUT the kids. Yippee! We will NOT BE: playing hangman, singing any rap songs over and over, or using the word "like" between the other words in our sentences. I do expect to find a Gideon bible in our motel. Best to you mate! xxxooo

  9. Well, that guy is just a cartoon. It never ceases to amaze me, those who rise in power - and maintain their place there. Did we learn nothing from Gaddafi?

  10. I seem to remember something in scripture about 'God moving in mysterious ways;' then again the Gideon's aren't so mysterious, maybe scripture could be paraphrased to read 'God moves through normal means to mysterious persons?' ... don't think I'm too far out of bounds. Thanks Sage

  12. I feel like I have someone whispering in my ear "If you can't say something nice, don't say it at all."

About him, I mean, not your writing, NJ.

  13. Wow, that's one Beatles song I'm not familiar with. My Dad would be so disappointed.
