The dog and I took a hike yesterday afternoon along the blue-blazed North Country Trail. It was a pleasant day to wee what signs of spring may be lurking under the dead leaves. The trail wove in and out between hardwood stands and pine plantations. A stiff breeze was blowing, bringing in cooler and wetter weather. Tonight they’re calling for snow, but yesterday the wind rustled through the pines, creating the lonely sound that gives a rise to my desire to roam. I’m not in a writing mood at present, so I’ll leave you with a few photographs to enjoy. As I've alluded to before, the dog doesn't like his picture taken! So I only got "back shots" of him prancing down the trail. Notice the blue blaze of the North Country Trail.A woodpecker appears to have been hard at work.
Dogs seldom like to have their picture taken. Cats on the other hand will pose for you.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful pics. Winter is definitely going out like a lion this year. Not that anyone is surprised after its long and treacherous reign.
ReplyDeleteI remember your saying the flash from your camera reminds your pup of lightning. You're a good "dad" for shooting her from behind. :)
Nice pix, Sage.
ReplyDeleteBrother what a change 18 hours has made...fortunately on the west side they are calling for snow melting temps today...I hope I hope I hope...
ReplyDeleteWhere was Katz?
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good hike. Is that trail a longer backpacking route?
ReplyDeleteCheers.
Lovely pictures...until I look out of the window and still see it snowing.
ReplyDeleteSo, taking a nap so you can stay up for the big game tonight? You and wifey got any friendly wagers on it?
Loved that woodpecked shot.
ReplyDeleteThey're forecasting that awful white stuff down here in Georgia tonight and tomorrow. What's happening???
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely trail! great photos
ReplyDeleteNice, very nice!
ReplyDeleteI can see it... spring is coming! I've been out looking for morels- nothing yet. Ed's going to put up pictures of them soon, I just know it.
ReplyDeletePoor Spartans....not really..well kinda. I wanted your team to win until I noticed that they have argyle on their warm up jackets and I think down the leg of their shorts. What's up with the argyle?!?
ReplyDeleteI betthat wood pecker has a head ache.
ReplyDeleteBeau - I think it will be a while yet for us. The lows are still in the mid 30's all week. I'm guessing it will be another two or three weeks before I see any morels!
ReplyDeleteI think that is so funny your dog doesn't like his picture taken. I only have one horse who gets irritated when the camera is pointed at him.
ReplyDeleteYour photos and commentary reveal such a deep love for life, Sage and a curiosity about others. I love stopping by here! Yo are really making the most of Life and I'm privileged to be here to see all that you teach us!
ReplyDeleteWe're waiting for spring to return. The last week or so has been a tease.
ReplyDeletegreat photos. Looks like a great place to take a walk and forget your cares for a little while...
ReplyDeletebut what about those allergies?
Thanks for the comments--I haven't be around to answer them all, but let me answer two:
ReplyDeleteAllegeries: I take stuff up the nose for that! :)
North Country Trail: it's the longest trail in America (or well be when competed), going from NY State to North Dakota--nearly 4000 miles, taking in the Finger Lakes Trail in NY, the Baker Trail in PA, swinging south in OH, then up in Michigan to Lake Superior and following the shoreline, then acoss northern MN and on into ND. Not all the trail is finished, but a good portion of it here in MI is finished. I've also done sections of it (same as the Finger Lakes Trail) in NY.
You capture slices of life more richly than pretty much anyone I know.
ReplyDeleteTanya sent me this evening to thank you for sharing these experiences with us.
love to see signs of spring, even the tiniest bud of it.
ReplyDeleteSpring? What kinda drugs you on over there, Sage? :)
