We’re quickly moving through the alphabet in this April’s
A-Z challenge. We’re up to the letter
R. Where in the world would I want to
travel that beings with an “R” that I haven’t already been. Russia would make the list except that I’ve
been there (taking the longest train journey of my life). At one time Rhodesia might have made the
list but I’d have to perfect time travel and I don’t know if I’d cared to visit
back then or even now with the mess it’s in.
Rangoon might have made the list, but I’ve already talked about it with Myanmar
and besides, it’s now normally called as Yangon.

I think for my “R” destination should be an island, only it
isn’t really one. I think my “R”
destination should be a small area without too many people. That it is, the smallest state and the eighth smallest in population. However, the size makes the state the second in population density. But most importantly, it's the only state
within the continental United States that I’ve not visited. So my choice for the letter R, if you haven’t
guessed, is Rhode Island. The question
is, how have I missed it? We’ll, look at
a map, it’s not that large and you pretty much have to go there to have been
there. If you're traveling north and south on the freeways, it's easy to miss it! I could take the train to Providence (maybe even making it a stopping point on a trip to Boston, which would allow me to scratch off
two of my bucket list places).

ReplyDeleteRhode Island is one of the few states I've never been to. We need to do a family New England vacation sometime soon.

I haven't been to Rhode Island or a few other New England states, something I do wish to remedy someday but before that, I think I would hit up Rome first.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been there either, but you can't go too wrong with the New England coastline.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I've ever heard of someone visiting that state!
ReplyDeletePretty small place as I've heard. Of course, I have no real idea, having never been there.
ReplyDeleteRhode Island has its own islands. You can take a ferry out to Block Island to see the lighthouse. I live in Massachusetts so I've been there many times. Newport is beautiful.

I've never been there either, but I have heard much about their seafood.
ReplyDeleteI live in such a huge state, that I'd love to visit Rhode Island if only to say I drove across the entire state in a few hours. I wonder how long it does take to cross the state at it's widest point. When you visit, you must find out.
ReplyDeleteNever been either. So close to it but never even drove through. Re the African Queen novel, nope never read it. I wasn't even aware it was a book.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't Rhodesia ve discounted as it isn't Rhodesia any more? Any way, Zimbabwe is a much more useful destination for your purposes beginning with Z as it does. A wonderful country, well worth visiting when all is calm there.
ReplyDeleteI was making a joke about Rhodesia and time travel. Z will either be Zimbabwe or Zambia (both interesting places)
DeleteSooner or later you're going to pick a place I've actually visited.
ReplyDeleteOoh, you've been on the train in Russia? I'd really like to travel on the Trans-Siberian Railway...
