And then I popped into Facebook and read that one my readers of this blog is going to a Tiger game tonight. That ain't fair! It normally wouldn't bother me much, but this is the weekend the Pirates are in Detroit and hopefully tonight is the night they break a 6 game losing streak! I had looked at trying to get down there for one of the games, but it just wasn't in the cards.
Speaking of tides, I've recently read Conroy's The Prince of Tides. It's my first of his books and I'll review it later, but his adjective-laden prose reminds me of my home country, "Down East" in North Carolina. The photo was taken on low tide back in April when I was at my parents. I'll try to be back soon with something more substantial to post.
I thought that was a very good story. If I make one crit', it's a bit wordy where it needs short and pithy. And I don't think that's from the SC cadence, that meter comes through. All told, I think its an error in editing. And might even be something padded on the editors instructions. Remember that stories like that were not so open until about ten or so years later with The Shipping News
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about needing the tide to fall. I long for a day without multitasking.
ReplyDeleteMe too, Sage. I took 3 days off at the beach last weekend and I still feel I need more! I guess we're all eagerly waiting for our summer holidays...
ReplyDeleteI just read Prince of Tides a couple of months back. I'll be intersted to see your take on it.
ReplyDeleteWeather has been kind of dicey for a ball game..watched a little of a Pirates/Tigers game for a few innings on TV...
ReplyDeleteI'd like to hear more about The Prince of Tides book. Nice photo. Reminds me of a scene from the woods behind my house back there.
ReplyDeleteHoping you find some quiet time to relax and enjoy the summer!
PS - I meant the house I had in upstate NY...not Miami!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. I've had those stretches, too. All I can see is that tide goes down eventually.
ReplyDeleteCheers.
Vince, I'll publish my review soon, but a little wordy... that goes without saying
ReplyDeleteHigh School Teacher, but you get your summers free, eh?
Charles, hopefully tomorrow!
Buffalo, the Pirates are in a free-fall, maybe it'll help the Tigers gain some ground in their standings
Ily, that photo reminds you of NY State? I've lived in that part of NY State and didn't see the first oyster there (except for the New Years parties I threw when I'd been to NC and came back with a trunk load of coolers)
Randall, if the tide doesn't fall soon, I'll be adding an extension pipe to my snorkel :)
Oh my, I have to echo high school teacher! Sage, I've been posting unsubstantial for months now...thanks for still reading.
ReplyDeleteI hope your project is going well, on time and under budget.
ReplyDeleteIt has been years and years since I read Prince of Tides, but I could not put it down. I guess I liked it. :)
ReplyDeletenever read the book but for the non movie person that I am, I did enjoy the movie
ReplyDeleteWishing you a little peace and quiet and time to enjoy it...
ReplyDeleteLoved the book--loved the movie even more which is strange as I'm not a Streisand person. Liked most of his books but couldn't finish South of Broad. Not as good as Beach Music which I think you would like--and The Great Santani is a masterpiece. But those are just my opinions
ReplyDeleteNow I have to find a book that makes fun of South Carolina ")
I'm back, Sage and I hopee Blogger won't snatch my comments now. I just wanted to recommend you to take it easy... as I will take it easy too. ;)
ReplyDeleteLovely picture of the tide!
I took in a game Saturday, but it wasn't in Detroit. And my team lost. Go figure.
