Happy Valentine's Day

After several weeks of extreme cold, even for Michigan, we’re in a thaw cycle. Sunday morning it was 33 degrees and it was 39 degrees this morning, a significant change as just last Thursday it was well below zero when I went out with the dog at 6:30 AM. Of course, the cold will return on Saturday, but not before the snow has a chance to melt which is screwing with my hope of doing a full moon cross-country ski on Friday night (the plan had been to do a 4 mile ski into a local town on the bed of former railroad tracks, enjoy a dinner and some beers at a local watering hole, then ski back). Instead, of nice snow, we’ll have mud to slosh through.

These Valentine Cards are from the early 1900s and a part of the collection of cards that I have with a stamp collection that I created as a child. I hope you have a wonderful day that is full of love and happiness.

  1. What a great plan....darn the mud! Let me know if the weather man is wrong and you get to do that ski after all. Of course...you could always swing up north. Ours is and still will be - good and frozen on full moon night;)
Like the card. What a neat thing to collect!
Have a great day and new week!

  2. I told someone the other day I think Valentine's Day peaks when you're about seven years old, giving cards to every girl in the class :)

It's warmer here, too. About 63 right now. Probably wouldn't be good for your skiing.

  4. Nice, nostalgic feel to those cards. The thaw doesn't bode well for your ski plans but it sure is nice to see some of this white stuff melt away.

  5. Dawn, I'll let you know if it changes, but I envy your snow conditions!

Bone, I think V-day peaked about 13, when I brought the first heart-shaped boxes of chocolates for Cathy

Lynn, thanks, you have a happy v-day too

Hilary, those were "post cards" as in you didn't put them into an envelope!

  7. I'm certainly enjoying the thaw. They are calling for 60 degrees here later this week. Perhaps that groundhog was right after all.

  11. In spite of everything this winter, we're all surviving... even if barely, two fantastic no really three, we had 47 degrees maybe higher even on Sunday, I can see brief sections of my actual driveway and the sun has been out so much more! Can it be true that perhaps a bump or two more but finally SPrinG! We can only hope! Very nice card too, I hope your Valentine's day was special!
