To this day my family calls oatmeal "porridge," so that reference made me smile. <br /><br />Note to Sage: Never leave the country without telling your bank! We had a friend move to the Philippines to retire, and he forgot to tell is bank. His bank card was denied his first day in the country, and he had to fly back to Los Angeles and straighten everything out!<br /><br />I so enjoyed sharing your trip! I tend to use them or cash overseas and only wtihdraw cash via a debit card. My card that I normally use hasn't been updated to a chip while the other bank's card has, which also may have made it easier to use to withdrawal funds. The author doesn't try to solve or answer all the questions about the two, but she does make the case that Columba didn't just come to Iona to bring Christianity to Scotland, but that there might have been a political reason for him leaving Ireland. It was about 400 pounds, luckily she found the cash stuff in a different pocket of her backpack.<br /><br />I wasn't supposed to learn this since on the first day or her trip, before she even left the US, she called me in a panic because she had left a credit card at a restaurant. When I find one that works, I always make a note of which bank name is on top and then seek them out in the future. I've never understood why it is but I'm sure it has something to do with fees and deals between banks.
