I came in 2nd place and have never raced since. I have been into cycling off and on over the years just for recreation and now I love commuting and using cargo bikes in Robeson county. I get allot of looks while riding my cargo bike that remind me of cycling in Robeson County back in 1981.My mission now is to help get some bike paths or bikes lanes to the north part of Lumberton,NC where ALL the business has moved to. Anyway great story on Fair Bluff.Charlienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9454941.post-1144107698688861482006-04-03T19:41:00.000-04:002006-04-03T19:41:00.000-04:00I lived right across the county line in Robeson Co...I lived right across the county line in Robeson County - my father owned part of a tobacco warehouse in Fair Bluff, my brother works in Fair Bluff, and we used to go to the doctor, get the car fixed, and shop in Fair Bluff.

It's always been sort of a joke with me that the only hills I grew up with were where the land dipped into a swamp and the mounds of dirt beside the irrigation ponds. Seriously, the few times it snowed we slid down ditchbanks.Lauriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13607467794651542046noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9454941.post-1144093674500167012006-04-03T15:47:00.000-04:002006-04-03T15:47:00.000-04:00What a hoot! I spent a lot of time in Fair Bluff - that was where the doctor, drugstore, hardware store, car dealership, and ABC store were. I think that the drugstore might still be there, but the town has declined with the farming community.

By the way, there is a hill near Fair Bluff. It is the gentle incline out of Ashpole Swamp on Hwy 904 on the west side of Fair Bluff. That's less than a mile from our farm in Marietta.Lauriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13607467794651542046noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9454941.post-1143759798102767792006-03-30T18:03:00.000-05:002006-03-30T18:03:00.000-05:00it would have been nice if you made it as one of y...it would have been nice if you made it as one of your careers!

how goes it man? heheh!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9454941.post-1143723905772146322006-03-30T08:05:00.000-05:002006-03-30T08:05:00.000-05:00I have two mountain bikes and one road bike, my fa...I have two mountain bikes and one road bike, my favorite is to mountain bike. They are great for in-town use where tire eating storm drains and curbs abound. I also visit the mountains of NW Arkansas quite often where old logging roads are everywhere and very rarely do you see any vehicles.

However, as I have gotten older, I do less and less riding all the time. Now it is mostly around town or nearby trails with my wife. I still keep them hung on the garage wall as reminders of that past life.Edhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13214319366049620074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9454941.post-1143689139282342712006-03-29T22:25:00.000-05:002006-03-29T22:25:00.000-05:00that's one way to hang on to your undefeated recor...that's one way to hang on to your undefeated record!kontanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06421013605338521092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9454941.post-1143687058705300952006-03-29T21:50:00.000-05:002006-03-29T21:50:00.000-05:00Ed, you're probably hated by all the Amish horses ...Ed, you're probably hated by all the Amish horses in Iowa! I've never owned a mountain bike, just have resisted the urge, not sure why.

Tim, thunderstorms are wonder! It's lots of fun and takes lots of commitment, time, and training to build up to. Unfortunately, right now other commitments prevent me from doing much bike riding. But I have lots of good memories including getting caught in thunderstorms. ;)Tim Ricehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01305530681191503858noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9454941.post-1143644857122027892006-03-29T10:07:00.000-05:002006-03-29T10:07:00.000-05:00During our evening rides, we used to come across t...During our evening rides, we used to come across the occasional Amish buggy. (Not surprising since there is a large colony living here.) Racing them on the flats was pretty easy on all but the windiest of days but sometimes we would pass one by a hill and they would give their horse an extra lashing or two to make a horse race (pun intended) of it. I don't think I ever lost one of those races but several times I thought I might burst a lung.

Once in Arkansas while downhilling on a rugged logging road on my mountain bike, I passed a fourwheel drive pickup and after another quarter mile had caught up with another. I was pretty proud of myself until with a pop my rear tire let go. I had to swallow my pride sitting there among the brush as the pickup slowly drove by with occupants smiling.Edhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13214319366049620074noreply@blogger.com
