Complaints and Photos of Yucatan Flowers

What a night! Yesterday, my sinuses exploded. My nose spray seems to have given up. I had an evening meeting, so I came home and took a late afternoon nap. By 8:30 PM, when I got back home from my meeting, I was whipped. I was in bed by 9:30 PM and slept soundly till midnight. After the bewitching hour, I kept going into coughing fits, the drainage being such that it made the back of my throat raw. So I got up and drew a bath of hot water and soaked, alternating between reading and napping. At 3, I decided to try the bed again. I crawled back in and, until the alarm went off at 6:30 AM, woke up every ½ hour. The side of my face lying on my pillow would be stuffed, so I’d roll over and let the gunk in my head drain to the other side. I’m sure that’s more than you wanted to know.

In the midst of all this, sometime during the night I dreamed that I was looking at purchasing a TV. I don’t know why! Buying a TV ranks up there with buying cars and root canals, but in my dream there was this fancy TV for sale for half price, $400. But it didn’t have the built in digital convertor and I said that I didn’t think I wanted it. The salesman kept cutting the price in half, to $200, to $100 and to $50 as I was trying to get out the door. I never made a purchase…

I hope I feel better tonight as I’m planning on going to hear Rick Bragg speak. I’ve recently reviewed two books from his family trilogy and started reading the last of them on Sunday. Like the first two, I’m enjoying this one too.

To make up for my complaining, I’ll share some flower photos with you. I photographed these in the Yucatan last month.

  1. Go ahead, complaints are ok. Sometimes it is so difficult to sleep with a stuffy nose and feverish thoughts.

You ought to waited to buy that TV for $25!

    Sending you get well hugs...

  2. Sorry about your sinus trouble - I am sharing it now. My nasal spray gave up too. I'm taking Claritin and Mucusin D, which works well.

  4. You're going to hear Bragg tonight??? Wow that's awesome!!!

I don't get sinus. Never. Touch wood. And I can't speak too soon too because for the last couple of days I woke up feeling my nose blocked. Ugh.

These are very good pictures Sage. The second one is Oncidium... and I think it's called Dancing Lady. Or wait, is it Tiger Lily? Can't remember which, but I know it has some real pretty name, just like the flowers. Lovely pictures. Lovely.

  5. Seriously, take a big gob of Vick's vapor rub and put it under your nose pre-bed or pre-bath where the steam will help.

That last photo makes me happy I recently planted some bouganvillea on my deck!

  6. Sorry to hear that. I had myself a bit of a cold or something a couple of weeks ago. Felt like I lost five pounds in mucus alone.

  7. Beautiful flowers- and is that first one an "air plant" of sorts? Neat. I went through the sinus mess in March- hope you feel better. I have fantastic dreams... and five minutes after I wake up I forget what they were about!

  9. Old school remedy? Drink a copious amount of liquor...you'll soon forget that you're plugged up...or at least stop caring.

  10. I'm a little ahead of you. I got mine last Thursday and am just getting things wrapped up. For me, when I start getting the way you are now, I buy a box of Nyquil liquicaps and take two of them right before bed. It cleans my sinuses right out and helps me sleep through the nighttime coughing fits. The joys of spring!

  11. Those are lovely pics, Sage.

I know what you mean about the misery of allergies. I never had sinus problems until I moved to Chicago. What does that say about the polution situation here...

    Hope you feel better tonight!

  12. Love the pictures. Sorry about the cold--try a Netti pot--the Times had an article about them today and I can attest that they really work

You and Bone seem to have a shared love of TMI at times :) but sweetly. I know it's not really a Southern thing...

  14. Am a fan of flora of all kinds, and was fortunate enough to spend time last year checking some out in New Zealand and Australia. Love your photos! I've never seen these kinds before.
