An afternoon on the river

My brother and his daughter came into town yesterday. His daughter is going to be doing an internship for a nearby company this summer and he drove her up here. We spent yesterday afternoon on the river. In our teens and early 20s, he and I did a lot of paddling. This was our first trip together in more than two decades.
In addition to my daughter, Mr. Trisket also rode in my boat. The mutt doesn’t like cameras.
The trees are budding out; the paddling was beautiful.
I shot this photo of a pair of Sandhill Cranes this afternoon. You should have heard them!

  3. Maggie, Trisket isn't a water dog--he knows not to get out of the canoe, but he gets excited when I have the camera out or when a herd of three deer swim across the river in front of us (I didn't have my camera out for that).

Diane, Kenju & Joe, this is a pretty time of the year here--but I have to remember to take my nose spray--it kills my sinuses.

  4. If I ever have my choice of somewhere to live, it will be somewhere with small clear streams with trees on both banks. Here it seems like the navigatable by canoe streams are all wide open with grassy shores.

  5. The reflection of the trees on the water, the whole scene actually, is a painter's dream.

  6. Ed, this river often floods, which has limited development along it's banks except where there are high bluffs... I like flowing water...

Scarlet, as I know you're into painting, let me know if you're interested!

  7. Looks gorgeous, Sage. I so want to go canoeing now: I haven't been since the summer after I graduated high school - I think I'm do for a trip!

  8. May I inquire which river? You should try to get down our way for a little Ozark paddling.

    Cheers.

  9. TC, Wisconsin has some great canoeing too--I did some last summer there!

Sherman, it's a small river that flows through the hamlet where I live. I'd love to canoe in the Ozarks--I'm sure it's a little like some of the rivers in the Southern Appalachians that I've paddled

  10. Sorry about the inquiry. I forgot myself inasmuch as I'm always looking for some new place to check out.

    Cheers.
