More on Olympic Skiing

It makes me proud to live in a land where our Olympic Committee picked up the tab for Bodie Miller to have a good time in Italian bars. Now, I enjoy a good drink after a day on the ski hills, but come on, this guy was there to respresent the USA. He didn't ski well, but he did it his way, which meant he had a good time at night. I would have been hiding my head in shame! Why couldn't he have been hit by a bus?. (I know that's not a nice thought, but I was counting on skiing to take my mind off other things like Georgie Boy selling us out to the UAE and all hell breaking loose in Iraq right after the military reported on how the insurgency is crumbling.)

  1. UAE is not the worst ME country to choose...at least they are made up of expats and are fairly Americanized. still think it is ridiculous to turn ports over to any nation...but then I guess business is business and security is just another thing to be bothered with.

  2. Michele sent me today :) I can honestly say that I don't follow or watch the olympics. I did however see "The Colbert Report" coverage of it, and am still chuckling about the US being tied for third place with Russia. You would think we could do a bit better :)

  3. Glad you're feeling better. The accident I was in was the year before NY got no fault, and it took years to get any money--and a five day trial--got so little my lawyer wouldn't take any!

Sage, have never heard you say anything like this before. Unbelievable--you not having nice thoughts. Welcome to my world ;-)

  4. He is not the first Olympian to be a disgrace, nor will he be the last. I do think that people who comport themselves in that manner should be denied participation in the next Olympics.

The 2 guys who are speed skaters ought to be smacked too, at least one of them.

  5. I like Bodie and I think he's a great in his sport. I do not agree with going out and having a big time during the Olympics. Especially when you aren't doing so hot.......He along with a couple of other hot doggers and "me" against the team make people dislike the US even more....

    Hi Michele sent me!

  6. Hello from Michele's!

I agree with you 100% I am embarrassed... even if Bodie's too drunk to be. But I am glad he did so poorly... too much hype... glad some of those in his shadow were able to take the gold!

And I'm not even starting on the UAE... chills!

  7. I would much rather have a skier who is dying for the chance to represent our country, wants to give it his all and is not the top skier than to have the top skier who doesn't give it his all and doesn't care about representing the country. After seeing his interview after his fifth flop, I wanted to reach out and boot his butt all the way back over seas.

The Darin/Chad verbal cat fight was an embarrassment as well.

  8. The thing is, Bodie has let everyone know, from day one, what kind of an athlete he is. Everyone knew he was like this before they went over.

BTW, I'm glad you were hurt too much in the accident.

  9. Kenju, I agree that we should manage and secure our own ports. It's interesting that cracks have appeared in the "approval process." Everyone was supposedly for it, then it came out Homeland Security had reservations, now its been disclosed that Coast Guard had reservations....

As for Bodie, I question him being on the team to begin with. Dawn is right, he has never denied who he is, the question is do we want someone like that representing us. Is the games just about winning or about something else. I hope I'm not sounding too much like a Puritan here.

  11. I see the Olympic committee in charge of choosing the athletes that represent our country have said that the athletes that are sent to Vancover will be more professional. They also said that they will take into account whether or not the athlete is more interested in competing or the atmosphere. I hope they live up to their words.

  12. To be honest, Sage, I was hoping the link to Bodie was an image of him (drunk on his ass or not!).

Capote wasn't in love with Smith. Just happened the journalistic connection for some folks back then could not be explained any other way. He was with Jack Dunphy, a lesser known tho widely respected writer back in the day.

    I take it you ski!
