They were active up and down the eastern seaboard, especially in 1942. There were a number of ships sunk off shore--In my younger days, I dove on one of the tankers that's about 24 miles offshore and in 90 feet of water.<br /><br />Pia, although I don't know a lot about your governor or SC politics, I'm envious of how he goes away. <br /><br />Kenju, the waterfront was just really coming into its own when I was in Wilmington--it's nice now<br /><br />Murf, what happened to Hootie and the Blowfish? Two things everybody thinks about...Uh my governor. Two things everybody thinks about him: he's a character and he looks presidential but in a sane world, and we don't know if it is, doesn't stand a chance---his stances run the gamut of just about everything<br /><br />Love Cape Fear and Wilmington. Everybody here goes to Wilmington for culture and hospitals. If I were a kid I think I would think "culture" a micro-organism just from the way people talk<br /><br />There were U-boats in other places along the coaat--Montauck being the one place they actually came ashore. WW2 is a large and fascinating subject that I think people relegate to ancient history now and really it shaped modern America<br /><br />Love the revolutionary war history in your post.
